EU-GCC Cooperation on Green Transition and De-Carbonisation
The “EU-GCC Cooperation on Green Transition and De-carbonisation” project is a flagship initiative that supports stronger political, technical and business ties between the European Union and the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries—Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
It acts as a catalyst for regional collaboration on climate action, renewable energy, decarbonisation, circular economy, and green technology. It aims to position the EU as both a trusted climate partner and a gateway to innovation, policy exchange and economic opportunities in the transition to a low-carbon economy, supporting market access for European green-tech companies entering Gulf markets.
The project is structured around four core components:
- Green Transition Policy Dialogues: mapping relevant stakeholders, identifies opportunities for cooperation and provides studies, situation analyses and policy briefs.
- Renewable Hydrogen Market Development: this component explores the maturity, gaps and export potential of hydrogen production. It also fosters R&D exchange and lays the foundation for long-term collaboration on energy supply chains.
- Circular Economy and Nature-Based Solutions: Through peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing, the project promotes sustainable practices, including agri-tech, plastic reduction, ecosystem restoration and facilitates R&D partnerships.
- Climate Diplomacy and Outreach: delivering tailored communication campaigns, visibility tools and encounters between EU and Gulf stakeholders.
