EU-Mexico Trade Days: Strengthening Economic Ties and Market Access

To support Mexican businesses in accessing European markets, the EU Delegation to Mexico entrusted Equinoccio with organizing the EU-MEX Trade Days: Importing from the EU, All You Need to Know, held on May 12, 2023, in Mexico City. Implemented under the EU Policy and Outreach Partnership (EUPOP) Mexico and Central America – Phase II, the event provided Mexican businesses and trade stakeholders with practical insights into importing from the EU and highlighted the economic benefits of EU-Mexico trade relations.

The event gathered over 70 in-person participants and over 170 online attendees, including representatives from export-import industries, business chambers, government agencies, and financial institutions. Key stakeholders included ANIERM (National Association of Importers and Exporters of the Mexican Republic), COMCE (Mexican Business Council for Foreign Trade), COPARMEX (Confederation of Employers of the Mexican Republic), and BANCOMEXT (National Foreign Trade Bank). The opening session featured keynote remarks by the EU Ambassador to Mexico, the President of EUROCAM (European Chambers of Commerce in Mexico), and senior representatives from the Mexican Ministry of Economy, emphasizing the importance of EU-Mexico trade and investment ties.

Structured across six thematic panels, the discussions addressed EU trade policy, sectoral opportunities, financial instruments for importers, and the advantages of sourcing European goods and services. Experts from the European Commission (DG TRADE, DG AGRI, and DG GROW), BusinessEurope, and EU Member State trade offices provided detailed insights on trade facilitation mechanisms, regulatory frameworks, and business support initiatives.

A key session explored new opportunities under the modernized EU-Mexico Global Agreement, outlining anticipated benefits for agricultural products, industrial goods, and digital trade. Additionally, Mexican business leaders and policymakers shared firsthand experiences on trade facilitation, supply chain integration, and sustainable business practices.

To maximize outreach, the event was livestreamed on EU Delegation platforms, and post-event resources, including recorded sessions and trade toolkits, were shared with participants.

This initiative reinforced the EU’s role as a strategic trade partner for Mexico, promoting fair, open, and sustainable trade practices while equipping Mexican businesses with the knowledge and tools needed to strengthen their ties with European markets.
