Destination Europe

Jakarta residents have the chance to travel to Europe this weekend – right here in the city. Today, H.E. Olof Skoog, Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Indonesia and other European ambassadors introduced “DESTINATION EUROPE – The first European Travel and Culture Fair in Indonesia”. The event will take place on 18 and 19 October at Balai Kartini Convention Centre in Jakarta, presenting a great opportunity to discover Europe in the most complete way.

“As EU Ambassador to Indonesia, I have had the chance to immerse myself into Indonesia’s amazing culture and way of life. To discover other cultures is one of the greatest experiences one can have; to meet new friends, to taste new food, experience local traditions and languages, to discover similarities and be inspired by differences”, explained H.E. Olof Skoog.

He added “This travel and culture fair will present ‘Destination Europe’ to the Indonesian public in all its diversity and beauty – amazing landscapes, historic towns, exquisite food and unique culture.”

DESTINATION EUROPE aims to go beyond traditional travel fairs by presenting a glimpse of Europe’s cultures, offering an impression of Europe’s rich variety and diversity and at the same time providing practical information and inspiration for journeys to Europe. The fair is unique in the way it combines travel and culture: first class European and Indonesian exhibitors with fantastic performances and presentations.

It will include around 70 exhibitors, present an entertainment programme for the whole family with almost 50 events – dances, bands, cooking demonstrations, language classes, work shops and talk shows, and feature a food festival to give visitors a taste of Europe.

24 EU Member States and European countries will provide visitors with comprehensive information about dream travel destinations and hidden gems throughout Europe. 12 major Indonesian travel operators will then allow visitors to take up special offers and book their next European holidays right away.

In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to win tickets to Europe. A total of 8 tickets will be sponsored by the Platinum Sponsors of the event, Air France/KLM and Lufthansa, and by Gold Sponsor Turkish Airlines. The lucky draw, in which visitors participate with their entrance tickets, will award 4 tickets to 2 lucky winners each day.

At the EU booth, visitors will be not only able to learn more about the European Union and about the Schengen area, but also to participate in games and quizzes.
