Advanced Training of Trainers Programme in Competition Law

Between 17th and 22nd September 2015, Equinoccio and the CARIFORUM Directorate organized successfully an “Advanced Training of Trainers Programme in Competition Law”. The training programme was coordinated by Dr. Taimoon Stewart and Prof. Frédéric Jenny of the Equinoccio consortium.

Prof. Jenny delivered the training modules to regional competition practitioners. Dr Frédéric Jenny is Professor of Economics at ESSEC Business School in Paris, Judge at the Supreme Court of France (Cour de Cassation) and Chairman of the OECD Competition Law and Policy Committee. He has written extensively on Industrial Organisation, Competition law, Trade and Economic Development. Professor Jenny shared his wealth of experience from the enforcement, judicial and policy development spheres to give important insights on the nuances of the application of competition law and policy in different jurisdictions.

The overall objective of the training was to increase the knowledge and improve the skill sets of staff from the CARICOM Competition Commission, and other National Competition Authorities. This activity bodes well for the further development of CARICOM jurisprudence on competition and law policy. The training sessions were designed to have a mixture of lectures, interactive sessions, and the discussion of hypothetical cases.

The workshop was attended by representatives of the CARICOM Competition Commission, Jamaica Fair Trading Commission, Barbados Fair Trading Commission, Pro Competencia, the national competition authority of the Dominican Republic and Legal Department of the CARIFOUM Directorate.
