Sustainable Development Support Programme in the Impoverished Mining Areas of Western Bolivia

The rationale for this project is that cooperatives formed by ex-miners following the tin crisis, whom in many cases exploited the existing ore reserves with a short-term perspective, required advisory, technical and training support to sustainably operate their mines in the long term.

The specific goal of the programme is the sustainable economic development of the mining regions through the creation of better working opportunities and the improvement of their social conditions, respecting the environmental, gender and human rights issues and the reduction of child labour.

The project support is a combination of:

  • Strengthening the mining sector
  • Creating new employment opportunities
  • Protecting vulnerable populations
  • Developing the regions
  • Strengthening the management of the municipalities
