Study to Assess the Coherence of National Development Plans with the Regional Agenda within SADC'S Regional Integration Process

The rationale for this project is that the provision of advisory services will raise the awareness and strengthen the capacity of SADC Member States to comply with certain provisions and requirements set out in the objectives, priorities and specific focal sectors of 10th EDF RSP/RIP that are related to regional economic integration (REI). These provisions are designed to engender a balanced alignment of the regional and national development programmes and discourage counter-productive strategic inconsistencies.

The project support is a combination of:

  • Verifying that Member States in SADC are properly informed on the existing Protocols, Declarations, Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) and other key documents related to Summits and/or Ministerial Meetings, concerning regional integration
  • Informing and raising the awareness of Member States on the results of the verification analysis of how the SADC MS national plans compared with the key protocols and other key documents which are compulsory for the regional economic integration process.
  • Informing and raising the awareness of Member States on results from qualitative assessments of how the national development plans take into account the regional agenda (e.g. legislative action plan, establishment of institution etc.).
  • Communication of lessons learned, in particular examples of "best practices" within the SADC region outlined and made available to Member States in REI.
