Development of Paute River Basin

The rationale for this project is that the provision of advisory services will strengthen the management of water and the environmental and economic resources in the Paute River Basin, and as a result, the living and economic conditions for the indigenous population will be improved.

The project support is a combination of:

• The institutional development and promotion of local participation. Strengthening the management capacity of local agents to undertake local development actions and implementing productive, social, environmental and/or educative micro-projects.
• Increasing agricultural production through the introduction of sustainable production technologies, improving commercialisation channels and providing training to farmers, together with the implementation of other support mechanisms such as micro-credit schemes.
• Improving environmental protection, reducing the negative impact of current production systems by improving soil use standards, introducing technological innovations and/or re-forestry programmes
