Position: Key expert 2: Business support and value chain development
Project Title:Technical assistance (TA) to enhance value addition, market access and competitiveness of prívate sector in Namibia in order to promote trade under the EPA
Project Period: May 2023 – May 2025
Duration of Assignment: 24 months
Input: minimum of 440 working days
Country / Duty Station: Namibia
Description of the project:
The services will involve provision of technical advice, analysis, training and capacity building in the following thematic areas:
- Legal and regulatory aspects: This includes among others regulations and a masterplan for Special Economic Zones, investment and export promotion, review of domestic foreign trade legislation and gap analysis, a national standardisation strategy relating to products and production processes.
- Support to value chain development for sectors such as cosmetics, charcoal, gemstones, seafood, mineral beneficiation
- Enhancing information for policy making, including surveys, statistics, input-output matrices, economic analysis.
- Business and product development: This includes market research, business advisory services (entrepreneurship and management training), product competitiveness and development, B2B networking and facilitation.
Beneficiaries: Ministry of Trade, other public and private sector org.
Job Description:
Key Expert 2 will assist the Team Leader and concentrate on the development of various value chains and micro-level support to existing areas of business development.
Qualifications and competencies
- At least a Master’s Degree academic level, preferably in the field of business or economic development. In its absence: an additional 5 years of experience in the field of economic or business development in addition to the 6 years of general professional experience.
- Written and oral communication skills in English of at least C2 level.
General professional experience:
- At least 6 years’ experience in trade policy or economic development or business development support
- Project management experience will be an asset.
Specific professional experience:
- At least of 3 years’ experience in value chain support.
- At least 3 years of experience in capacity building or training.
- Experience with Southern Africa economies, and especially of the Namibian one will be an asset.
